The Melton Mowbray Town Estate has since its inception in 1549, had a positive and beneficial influence on the Townspeople and the Town of Melton Mowbray and yet too many citizens remain unaware of its role and the advantages they enjoy as beneficiaries of the Estate. This is possibly because, in the last 30 years there has been a massive explosion in the population of Melton Mowbray, as numerous developments have devoured the surrounding green fields and the many newcomers who have settled in the Town have not had the inherent knowledge.

The Melton Mowbray Town Estate is, today, as strong as ever in its support for the Town. From its Charter Right to conduct weekly street markets and the permanent endowment investments, it is able to contribute some £200,000 per year in the maintenance of the public parks and recreational grounds that it owns on the Townspeople’s behalf and contributing to many causes of benefit to the community.

As the custodian of the town centre parkland it ensures the perpetual availability of this unique facility for the enjoyment of all. It is therefore very important that those who live in the area of benefit, the townspeople of Melton Mowbray, appreciate the value of the Town Estate and ensure that nothing is permitted to take away any of the benefits bestowed on them by the Charter under which it operates.
