Feoffees

About Feoffees

The charity is organised as an independent association of local residents with a body of Feoffees comprising elected and nominated members.

Feoffees are the trustees of the charity and are the people who are legally responsible for the overall management and decision making.

The Feoffees are elected or appointed at the Annual General Meeting (which is held in October) and hold office for four years. The two Townwardens are elected annually at the Annual General Meeting.

Feoffees' Management Committee

At the Special Feoffees Meeting held on Thursday 11th October 2007 it was decided to transfer the operational management of the Town Estate from the Townwardens to a newly formed Feoffees' Management Committee.

  • Suspension of Mrs Pat Cumbers.

The Feoffees of the Melton Mowbray Town Estate have today voted to suspend Mrs Patricia Cumbers from attending any meetings of the Town Estate and from carrying out any civic or ceremonial duties as Junior Townwarden for the remainder of her term of office. This decision has been reached following many actions taken by Mrs Cumbers in which she has attempted to undermine the authority of the Feoffees by spreading propaganda alleging that the Feoffees are incompetent and unable to manage the Town Estate correctly. This culminated with her distributing leaflets to the Townspeople who attended the Town Meeting which openly challenged the integrity of the Feoffees and included a pseudo ballot paper with crosses next to the names of candidates who were challenging those Feoffees standing for re-election. This action was clearly designed to attempt to influence the Townpeople in a cynical and wholly unacceptable manner that would not have been tolerated in a true political election.
