Senior Townwarden & Junior Townwarden
Since its inception in 1549, traditionally the day to day running of the Town Estate was undertaken by the Townwardens.
In 1989, a new Scheme of Arrangement was drawn up by the Charity Commission after public consultation and the management of the Town Estate was transferred to a body of 14 Feoffees, two of which are known as Senior and Junior Townwarden.
Nowadays, the position of Townwarden is titular only, i.e. the ‘public face’ of the Town Estate at civic or ceremonial occasions.
