Melton Mowbray Town Estate Firework Display Cancellation

For many years Melton Mowbray Town Estate has celebrated Guy Fawkes Night with a huge bonfire, spectacular display of Fireworks, fairground rides and stalls selling candyfloss and toffee apples which Melton people have enjoyed.

This year, at very short notice, the event was cancelled, a great disappointment to the public and the organisers alike. The Town Estate extends its apologies to everyone who came along to Play Close looking forward to an exciting and happy evening.

At a recent meeting of the Melton Mowbray Town Estate, Mr Peter Roffey was elected Chairman of the Charity for the ensuing year 2011-12.

Mr Roffey has held the position of Feoffee of the Town Estate for 19 years, including two years as Junior Townwarden and a further two years as Senior Townwarden and as such considers his responsibility as Chairman to be an opportunity to further the Town Estate for the benefit of the people of Melton Mowbray.

Sights Set on Crazy Golf Plan

A town is setting its sights on holding the British Open - for crazy golf.

The Melton Town Estate charity is aiming to put the town on the sporting map with an 18-hole course ready to host leading international crazy golfers.

Work will start over the winter converting a nine-hole course at its town centre sports ground in Leicester Road into an 18-hole course ready for national and international competition.

Melton's War Memorial Rededicated

Representatives from all areas were at the rededication of Melton's War MemorialFrom the Melton Times by Ben Truslove.

It was an emotional day when veterans and current service men and women re-dedicated Melton War Memorial.

Representatives from veteran organisations, the Defence Animal Centre, Police, Melton Council and the Town Estate lined the new flagstones to officially mark the refurbished upper level.

100 Years of Band Concerts

A CENTENARY celebration will take place in Melton on Sunday to mark 100 years of band concerts. It will be 100 years since Thursday, August 2, 1909, when the first concert took place in the new carousel bandstand and landscaped New Park.

The bandstand was restored to its former glory in 2008 as part of the Town Estate's Big Picture Appeal to rejuvenate Melton parks.

Joan Burns stepped down from her position as Melton Town Estate officer responsible for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday markets and is looking forward to getting a holiday.

W. Southerington & Sons Ltd. has given an unusual gift to the Town Estate in Melton Mowbray - a footbridge over the River Eye made at a cost of £60,000.

The bridge was given as a thank you for the support and business Melton Mowbray has given W. Southerington & Sons Ltd over the last 116 years. The bridge is named after John Southerington, director of the company, who in recent years had been a junior and senior town warden before becoming a member of the Feoffee's management committee for the Town Estate.
