Prominent face of Melton retires after 21 years
From the Melton Times.
A prominent face of Melton retired on Tuesday after 21 years running the street market.
Joan Burns stepped down from her position as Melton Town Estate officer responsible for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday markets and is looking forward to getting a holiday.
She said: "I have really enjoyed my job over the years. The traders are a really good bunch of people who have made it all enjoyable.
"It has changed quite a lot over the years, there aren't as many traders as there used to be but we seem to manage alright in Melton.
"I'm going to miss it but I'm looking forward to retiring and spending more time in the garden. I might even get a holiday on a Tuesday. I've worked my holidays round Tuesdays and Saturdays for the last 21 years."
Senior Townwarden Richard Sage paid tribute to the hardworking, popular woman.
He said: "Ever since I've been on the Town Estate Joan has been here and has always been part of the working group. She will be sadly missed and hard to replace. I will miss her smiling face every Tuesday morning very much."
