The Big Picture Appeal
The Big Picture will rejuvenate the Town Parks; install a bridge to connect the parks; restore the band-stand; upgrade play areas; install a MUGA and introduce a much needed Visitor / Heritage / Resource Centre.
The Resource Centre has the backing of local head teachers and will be available, free of charge, for local schoolchildren. Actual content will be decided following effective consultation but it will be ideal for national curriculum work focused around the area of the historic parks, gardens, river and old canal.
There will be a heritage / history display area in order to improve local understanding of Melton Mowbray Town Estate history. A great number of newcomers to the town over the last 30 - 50 years have no understanding of local heritage and how it has made a difference to the town and its fortunes. Having the information of the origins of the different areas of parkland and their heritage accessible to everyone is also an important feature of our project.
A café area, toilets (including disabled), would be included as part of the scheme; these are seen as an essential for this type of development and to avoid people leaving the park and not returning.
We will be including a donor board on site, to record all major donations (over £1,000) and also on an individual item, if it is funded outright.
Everyone agrees this is a very exciting scheme with tremendous potential, enhancing and rejuvenating the Town Parks and contributing to the social and economic regeneration of the area.
