Asfordby Road Sports Ground

The Estate was able to purchase nearly 39 acres of land on the western outskirts of the town. An 18 hole pitch and putt golf course has been laid out amongst the humps and hollows of the conjectured, mediaeval, deserted village site of Sysonby. The fairway of one of the holes is the Main Street of the Mediaeval Village.

It is a also a registered caravan site.

The larger of the two fields has been laid out with a football pitch. In the past there was also a whippet run. Drifts of forest trees have been planted, which will be attractive on maturity and tactfully separate the sports. Generous car parking space is available and the lie of the ground acts as a natural amphitheatre for events. A firework display has been held in the past. The sheer size of the arena avoids ground damage by crowds. Petfoods kindly donated a handsome sports pavilion in 1978 and picnic tables, with leisure gardens, are disposed to make a very pleasant amenity.
