Crosses

There were originally five distinct markets in the town, four of them with their own Market Cross. These crosses have disappeared over time although recently two of them have been restored. In the case of the Butter Cross, using parts of the original that were saved.

In addition to the four market crosses there were wayfarers' crosses at the principal entrance to and exit from the town. The Kettleby Cross stood on the Leicester road (leading to Eye Kettleby) and the Thorpe Cross by the bridge over the Scalford brook.
