Play Close was purchased by the Town Estate in 1866 for £170, later enlarging it in 1872 and 1886 respectively to the area it is today. It hosts some of the towns premier events throughout the year, including the Melton Mowbray Show, the annual hunt meet on New Years Day, as well as being the venue for fairs, circus' and other seasonal events. The Play Close has a Children's Play Area with amongst other things specialised Play equipment suitable for a wheel chair or push chair.
A beautiful park, with a lake and bridge, Priors Close is a haven for wildlife, as well as a place to sit and reflect. There is also, situated beyond the park, a Skate Park.
In 2009, New Park, and more specifically the Bandstand, celebrated it's 100 year anniversary with an open air concert. During the summer months, band concerts can be enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon.
Home of the Tennis Centre, Five-a-Side Football, Pitch & Putt, the Mowbray Train and Small Children’s Playground, Picnic Areas and Tranquil Gardens. The Pavilion Cafe with indoor and outdoor seating available.
The site can be booked for children’s parties to include miniature train. Prices on application.
Two football pitches let to both Saturday and Sunday league teams, showers and changing rooms. It is also the home of Egerton Park Cricket Club.
Egerton Park plays host to major Town events, like Melton Day and sporting events.
