Transcripts of letters lodged in the Town Estate office:

Melton Mowbray 2086

At a Melton Borough 2086 Committee meeting held on October 22nd 1987, it was unanimously agreed that the contents of the time capsule, buried in Priors Close on June 15th 1987, be updated in 50 years. It will then be re-buried so that the original intention to recover the capsule on June 15th 2086 by the Townwardens, can still be implemented.

The capsule contains microfiches of work by the children from 15 local schools, who depicted life within this town in the year 2086. It also contains a video recording and photographs which were taken during the special Exhibition of this work, held in PERA Main Hall on Monday 15th June 1987.

To the Townwardens for the year 2037.

The attached document is to be kept in the current minute book of its time, and it is to be produced at the Feoffees and Townwardens Meeting at the beginning of the year 2037, and a decision taken, in conjunction with the schools, on when the capsule shall be exhumed, updated and re-interred.

Townwardens for the year 1986.

  • Junior Townwarden Thomas R. Lowther
